LOVE SHOULD BE LIKE A CHILD

Ali Baba Karakaş – 03 Ocak 2026

Loving you from afar is never enough
Not when soul can’t meet soul
Unless I rest my head upon your chest
And your hands gently stroke my hair

Unless our eyes meet in love’s embrace,
Can dawn break unless I’m embraced by you?
Leave the window open for the wind to come
Let the wind cover our bare bodies

On the ferry deck, we sip our tea
My love, lost in the pelicans’ dance
The scent of sea should blend with your perfume
And your chestnut hair fly free in the wind

Let your tangled hair fall wild and free
It gently strokes my cheek with tender longing
You toss bagels to the pelicans
While I softly gaze into your hazel eyes

The ferry’s whistle broke locked eyes
Far off, a flute pierces the heart
At Kadıköy ferry dock, a street vendor stands
Barefoot, blue-eyed child selling handkerchiefs

In you, my homeland, love suffers in silence
This city needs love in children’s eyes
Let pure gazes hold love and longing
My heart yearns to love you like a child would
