Here I am, with all my whys and reasons
And I’m leaving myself behind, without a word
I couldn’t name what brought me to you
Were you the address written just for me?
Or were you a pebble resting at the lake’s floor?
You left without a word, without farewell
Before I could feel the cry in my chest
Like a toy, worn out in your hands in days
I became the one you no longer remembered
Was it spring or autumn when you came?
Like yellowed leaves, my heart faded
And fell apart, slowly, in tiny splinters
The storm hurled me into the steppes
Wounded and bleeding, a bullet without a question
You remained in my heart, your name upon my lips
And my eyes were left hanging in your chestnut hair
Let the part of me you hold be scattered by the winds
Let it drift to lands with no name, no return
I couldn’t name the wound that was your coming
I looked to the window—yet never saw you leave
